Bose QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) Offer Spatial Audio at Lower Price Point
The latest iteration of Bose's standard QuietComfort headphones integrates immersive audio, long battery life, and refined design.
Bose has introduced its new QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen), bringing spatial audio technology to its standard line of audio gear. This update offers a more immersive listening experience previously exclusive to the higher-end Ultra model, now at a more accessible price.
The headphones feature an adjustable EQ for sound customization and deliver active noise cancellation with Bose's QuietControl.
Design and Comfort
The QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) are designed for comfort, weighing just over half a pound and featuring a lightweight build suitable for extended wear. The earcups have been redesigned with a slimmer, pill-shaped profile, and the headband offers smoother adjustments. The foldable design and included carrying case enhance portability.
The headphones are available in six colors, including Dewdrop Mint and Rosewood Mauve.
Audio Features
A key upgrade is the inclusion of Immersive Audio, powered by Bose's TrueSpatial Technology. This feature expands the soundstage, creating a more enveloping audio environment. The 2nd Gen also includes Cinema Mode, which is optimized for video content, enhancing dialogue clarity while widening the sound.
While the noise cancellation is highly effective, the standard stereo sound can be perceived as reserved by some listeners. Adjusting the bass and other frequencies via the Bose app's EQ settings can tailor the sound profile. The headphones support lossless audio over USB-C, an improvement from the previous generation.
Battery Life and Performance
Battery life is rated at up to 24 hours of listening time, or approximately 18 hours when Immersive Audio is active. This provides ample power for multiple days of use.
Initial setup through the Bose app may require multiple attempts for some users. Once connected, users can manage noise cancellation, Aware Mode, and the Immersive Mode settings.
Compared to the first-generation QuietComfort Headphones, the 2nd Gen introduces Immersive Audio and lossless USB-C audio support. Physical design refinements include updated earcup shapes and button placements, aiming for a more modern aesthetic without compromising comfort.
