Apple Unveils HomeView Smart Home Device with Personalized Interfaces

Apple has introduced HomeView, a new smart home management system designed to offer personalized experiences for each family member through facial recognition. The device, unveiled at an event in New York, will be available for purchase on November 13.

HomeView features a built-in camera capable of recognizing up to six individuals. Upon recognition, it displays a personalized interface, showing relevant apps and information for that specific user. For instance, a user might see their preferred music and cooking apps, while another could have immediate access to messages. Apple assures that personal content remains private and hidden from other users of the device.

"If you've already bought into the Apple ecosystem, I think it's a no-brainer," noted Shivali Best, Science & Technology Editor for the Daily Mail, who was among the first to test the device. "But if your home runs on Ring, you might want to think twice, as HomeView won't fully integrate with your existing cameras and doorbell."

The device is available in two designs: a countertop model with an adjustable screen on a speaker base, and a wall-mounted version. The countertop model comes in four colors: space grey, silver, starlight, and rose pink, while the wall-mounted option is available in space grey and silver.

HomeView also integrates Apple's Siri AI, which can answer a wide range of questions and pull information from multiple apps. For example, users can ask Siri to play a song a friend sent via iMessage or to check store hours and add items to a shopping list. These interactions can sync across Apple devices, allowing users to continue conversations on their iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch.

Apple highlights the device's compatibility with a broad range of smart home accessories, including lights and locks, identified by the "Works with Apple Home" logo. However, a notable exception is Ring's smart devices. Integration with Ring doorbells and security cameras is not supported, meaning users will need to continue using the Ring app for those functions.

Pricing for the HomeView is set at $299 in the US and £299 in the UK. This positions it competitively against similar devices such as the Amazon Echo Show 11 ($249.99) and the Google Nest Hub Max ($229).

Apple HomeView is compatible with up to six users and features Siri AI and Apple Intelligence. It is available for pre-order immediately and goes on sale November 13.
