Apple to Unveil First Foldable iPhone at 'Surprise and Shine' Event
The tech giant is expected to launch its much-anticipated foldable device alongside other new products.
Apple has sent out invitations for a "Surprise and Shine" event at its headquarters in Apple Park, where it is widely expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone. The event is scheduled for September 9.
This marks a significant expansion for Apple's flagship smartphone line, which has historically followed a traditional form factor. While details remain under wraps, industry speculation suggests the new device, possibly named the iPhone 18 Ultra, will feature a foldable display. Unofficial renders hint at a design similar to existing foldable phones on the market, with a potential outer screen size of 5.5 inches and a larger 7.8-inch display when unfolded. IMAGE5
Alongside the foldable iPhone, Apple is also anticipated to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Additionally, the company is expected to launch a new version of its HomePod, a sequel to the HomePod Mini, which competes in the smart speaker market.
The 'Surprise and Shine' event is set to take place just eight days after John Ternus, the current head of hardware, is scheduled to take over as CEO from long-time leader Tim Cook. Ternus will assume the CEO role on September 1, after 15 years under Cook's leadership, who will transition to the role of executive chairman. IMAGE4
Apple's history includes significant product launches such as the Macintosh in 1984, the iPod in 2001, the iPhone in 2007, and the iPad in 2010. More recently, the company introduced the Apple Watch in 2014 and ventured into artificial intelligence with Apple Intelligence in 2024, with many of those features slated for release the following year. The company also announced the iPhone 13 in 2021 and the iPhone 14 in 2022, which included new safety features like car crash detection. IMAGE7 IMAGE2 IMAGE3 IMAGE6
