Apple is poised to introduce its first-ever foldable iPhone this Wednesday, a significant redesign that will test new CEO John Ternus's ability to foster innovation at the company. The launch is part of Apple's annual product showcase, which is also expected to feature new high-end iPhone 18 models and potential updates to its home and wearable devices.

The foldable device, rumored to be named "iPhone Ultra" or "iPhone Fold," is anticipated to fold to the size of a passport and unfold into a wider display with a roughly 4:3 aspect ratio. This marks a considerable departure from the company's established iPhone design and comes as Apple seeks another major hardware success, following a lukewarm reception to its Vision Pro headset.

John Ternus, who took over as CEO on September 1 after Tim Cook's 15-year tenure, previously led Apple's hardware division. He inherits a company facing scrutiny over its artificial intelligence strategy, including the long-delayed overhaul of Siri, and questions about its ability to deliver compelling new products as its existing lineup matures.

Beyond the foldable iPhone, the event may also unveil a new home hub device with a display and smart-speaker capabilities, designed to serve as a central control point for smart home devices. Updates to the Apple TV and HomePod mini are also expected, featuring hardware enhancements to support an AI-powered Siri. Additionally, new models of AirPods and Apple Watch, including the Series 12 and Ultra 4, are anticipated, with the watches expected to receive chip upgrades to bolster fitness features.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are slated for release, reportedly featuring Apple's new A20 chip, camera improvements, modifications to the Dynamic Island, and new color options. However, the standard iPhone 18 and a new iPhone Air are not expected to be announced at this event, with their launches reportedly scheduled for March.

Pricing for the new lineup is a key point of interest. While Apple increased prices for iPads, Macs, and home products earlier in the year due to an AI-driven memory shortage, iPhones were spared. This trend may change with the iPhone 18 Pro series, which is expected to command higher prices than current models. The operating systems expected to be showcased include iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27, with the foldable iPhone running a version of iOS 27 adapted for its dual-display setup.
