Anthropic Files for IPO, Potentially Valuing AI Firm at $2 Trillion
The artificial intelligence giant, known for its Claude chatbot, has submitted paperwork to list on the Nasdaq exchange.
Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company led by CEO Dario Amodei, has formally filed paperwork for an initial public offering (IPO) that could value the firm at up to $2 trillion. The company, which developed the Claude chatbot, intends to list on the Nasdaq exchange under the ticker symbol "ANT." The filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) follows a confidential submission in June, allowing regulators to review the company's financial information prior to the public announcement.
According to its S-1 filing, Anthropic reported a net loss of $80.7 billion in the first half of 2026, attributed to significant investments in developing its AI models. During the same period, the company's revenue was $16.3 billion. This financial disclosure comes shortly after Amodei advocated for a global slowdown in the development of frontier AI models, citing potential risks to humanity. He also proposed embedding third-party safety evaluators within AI labs, a suggestion that drew criticism over perceived conflicts of interest.
The potential $2 trillion valuation for Anthropic's IPO could surpass the records set by Elon Musk's SpaceX, which raised $86 billion at a $1.75 trillion valuation in June. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are leading the IPO efforts, as indicated in the filing.
