AI Actress Tilly Norwood's Social Media Presence Lags Despite Media Frenzy

Despite widespread media coverage and industry anxieties about AI performers, the AI-generated personality Tilly Norwood has a modest social media presence. Introduced last fall, Norwood has become a focal point for discussions surrounding the impact of artificial intelligence on Hollywood, drawing backlash from actors and sparking debates about the future of creative industries.

Tilly Norwood's creator, Elaine Van der Velden, has stated that talent agencies have shown interest in representing the AI performer. However, her online engagement does not reflect the intense media focus. Norwood's YouTube channel has just over 7,000 subscribers, and her music video has garnered approximately 373,000 views. On Instagram, she has 154,000 followers, with an additional 54,000 on TikTok.

Norwood's creators, Particle 6, are developing a feature-length film titled "Misaligned," which they claim will involve A-list Hollywood talent. However, the studio has not disclosed names, citing fears of potential backlash. Particle 6 also announced a "Tillyverse" project featuring Norwood and other AI characters.

Particle 6, the AI studio behind Norwood, indicated that their measure of success for the project extends beyond social media metrics. The company stated its aim is "continuously promoting where AI is at, showing what is possible and helping people across the industry to upskill and retool." By this standard, the studio suggests the project has achieved its goals, irrespective of Norwood's follower counts.

The broader Hollywood landscape is also exploring AI. Prominent figures such as Martin Scorsese, James Cameron, Gareth Edwards, and Steven Soderbergh have engaged with or publicly discussed the use of AI in filmmaking. This ongoing exploration contributes to the complex conversation surrounding AI's evolving role in the entertainment industry.
