Zach Johnson carded a final-round seven-under-par 65 to win the inaugural Portugal Invitational at The Els Club in Vilamoura, Portugal. He finished at 19-under par, two strokes ahead of Stewart Cink.
The event, hosted by Ernie Els, marked the first officially sanctioned PGA Tour Champions event held in Portugal. Johnson, who won the 2007 Masters and the 2015 Open Championship, demonstrated precise wedge play throughout the tournament.
Johnson opened the final round with three consecutive birdies and added two more on the front nine to take a commanding lead. Despite a slightly wayward shot on the 11th, he holed a putt from off the green to reach 18 under par. He secured his victory with a birdie on the final hole, finishing with a 54-hole total of 197.
Stewart Cink, who entered the week leading the Champions Tour's order of merit, finished in second place at 17 under par. He made a late charge with four birdies on the back nine, but it was not enough to catch Johnson.
Padraig Harrington, the 2026 U.S. Senior Open champion, finished in a tie for third place at 15 under par. Harrington drove the ball well but struggled with his iron play and putting. Bogeys on the sixth, 13th, and 16th holes, the latter after hitting into water, hampered his challenge.
"I got off to the dream start and I really felt like the putt going in on seven was key. I had a couple of putts that lipped in that could have lipped out, and that was the difference," Johnson said after his win. "Our host Ernie is all class and what he has done with this facility is so impressive. It's great for us pros but also playable for beginners - and the Algarve generally is easy to love and hard to leave."
The tournament was played on a course redesigned by Ernie Els under sunny but breezy conditions. The event offered a prize fund of $3 million.
