The New York Yankees secured a 6-1 win against the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, completing a series sweep. The victory featured a strong performance from pitcher Gerrit Cole and contributions from recent additions Heliot Ramos and Luis García Jr.
Cole pitched six innings, allowing only one run and striking out eight batters. His outing was a bright spot for the Yankees, who have been navigating the season with key player Aaron Judge sidelined. Ryan Yarbrough followed Cole with three scoreless innings, preserving the bullpen.
The Yankees' offense found success against Orioles right-hander Kyle Bradish. In the third inning, a three-run rally was initiated by back-to-back singles from Spencer Jones and Austin Wells. An error by the Orioles' shortstop allowed Jones to score, followed by an RBI single from Ben Rice and a double from Heliot Ramos, who had struggled in his previous 10 games.
Luis García Jr. extended the Yankees' lead in the sixth inning with a solo home run. He later added a single and scored on a triple by Jazz Chisholm Jr.
Spencer Jones also contributed an opposite-field home run in the sixth inning, his sixth of the season. The Yankees' offense scored at least five runs in consecutive games for the first time since early July.
The win moved the Yankees to 4 1/2 games behind first-place Tampa Bay and four games ahead of the Boston Red Sox in the AL wild-card race. The team has now won four consecutive games, its longest streak since the All-Star break.
