Yankees Rotation Bolstered by Elite Starters Ahead of Playoffs
The New York Yankees boast a formidable starting rotation, potentially the strongest among remaining playoff contenders, featuring Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodón, and Max Fried.
The New York Yankees enter the postseason with a pitching rotation considered by many to be the best among the remaining playoff teams. The depth of the rotation is so significant that even Gerrit Cole, a former Cy Young winner and future Hall of Famer, is slated to pitch Game 1 of the division series against the Tampa Bay Rays, with manager Aaron Boone initially not committing to a starter for that game.
Carlos Rodón is also rested and ready, having been one of the American League's hottest pitchers in the final weeks of the season. Since his return, Rodón posted a 1.89 ERA and a .146 batting average against, both MLB bests over that span. Additionally, Cam Schlittler, another key pitcher, is expected to be available for Games 2 and 5, thanks to the team's schedule including off days. The combined earnings for Cole, Rodón, and Game 2 starter Max Fried exceed $703 million, highlighting the significant investment in the team's pitching talent.
While Cole has allowed a higher than usual number of home runs in his last four starts, the Yankees possess four outstanding starting pitchers, with three currently performing at their peak. This strength contrasts with other playoff teams that have had to rely on bullpen games, openers, or starters returning from injury.
