New York Yankees rookie George Lombard Jr. exited Saturday night's second game of a doubleheader against the Boston Red Sox with what appeared to be a right knee injury. Manager Aaron Boone and a trainer checked on Lombard after he checked his swing awkwardly in his first at-bat of the game.
Despite the apparent discomfort, Lombard remained in the game and singled to left field in his first at-bat. He lined out to left field in his subsequent plate appearance in the third inning. However, he was replaced defensively in the top of the fourth inning.
Jose Caballero shifted to shortstop, and Amed Rosario entered the game at third base. If Lombard is placed on the injured list, the Yankees could recall Anthony Volpe from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
