Yankees-Rays ALDS: Post Experts Divided on Outcome

The New York Post's editorial staff has weighed in on the upcoming American League Division Series between the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays, with a majority of experts forecasting a Yankees victory.

Four of the six Post writers participating in the prediction pool picked the Yankees to advance. Jon Heyman anticipates a Yankees win in four games, citing the team's strong rotation and recent offensive improvements. Greg Joyce also expects the Yankees to prevail, but predicts a longer series, with the Yankees winning in five games, despite the Rays' home-field advantage at Tropicana Field.

Dan Martin echoed Joyce's prediction of a five-game series win for the Yankees. Martin acknowledged the Rays' home-field edge and the potential absence of Aaron Judge for the Yankees, but suggested the Rays are better suited for a long regular season than a short playoff series. Joel Sherman also projected a five-game Yankees triumph, emphasizing the importance of limiting mistakes at Tropicana Field and noting the Yankees' rotation strength as a key factor. He also pointed to potential struggles for the Rays in transitioning from their starters to closer Bryan Baker as an area that could open an offensive avenue for New York.

Two Post writers predicted the Tampa Bay Rays to upset the Yankees. Mark W. Sanchez anticipates the Rays winning in five games, forecasting that the Rays' offense will consistently pressure the Yankees' defense, which he identified as a weakness. Mike Vaccaro also picked the Rays in five games, suggesting that both teams will hold serve at home, which would favor the team that hosts the decisive Game 5.

The Yankees advanced to the ALDS after defeating the Boston Red Sox in the Wild Card Series. The Rays earned their spot by winning the American League East.
