New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. was ejected from Sunday night's game against the Boston Red Sox after arguing a checked-swing third strike call in the top of the sixth inning. The call was made by home plate umpire Adam Hamari.
Chisholm, batting in the leadoff spot, continued to argue the call after striking out. First base coach Dan Fiorito and manager Aaron Boone attempted to intervene and calm Chisholm, but their efforts were unsuccessful. The situation escalated when Chisholm slammed his helmet, leading to his ejection by first base umpire Todd Tichenor, who served as the crew chief.
Anthony Volpe replaced Chisholm in the lineup, and José Caballero shifted from shortstop to second base. During the incident, the Yankees trailed the Red Sox 2-0. Former Yankee Sonny Gray was pitching effectively for Boston, having retired the first 14 batters he faced and not allowing a hit through six innings. The Yankees' only baserunner up to that point was Amed Rosario, who drew a walk in the fifth inning.
