The New York Yankees are contemplating a potential call-up for veteran catcher Mitch Garver as a deadline looms.

Garver has a clause in his minor league contract that allows other teams until 3 p.m. ET on Monday to notify the Yankees of their intent to place him on their major league roster. If any team makes such a claim, the Yankees will have 48 hours to decide whether to trade Garver to an interested club or add him to their own major league roster.

This situation is underscored by the fact that any player must be in an organization no later than noon ET on Tuesday, Sept. 1, to be eligible for a postseason roster. The Yankees signed Garver to a minor league deal on Aug. 7, after failing to acquire a right-handed hitting catcher by the Aug. 3 trade deadline. His contract included the upward mobility out that expired on Aug. 28.
