Yankees Face Elimination After Sloppy Game 2 Loss to Rays
The Yankees committed four errors in a 5-2 defeat, forcing them to win the next game to avoid elimination.
The New York Yankees are facing elimination in their playoff series against the Tampa Bay Rays after a sloppy 5-2 loss in Game 2 on Monday night. The team committed four errors, including three in a four-batter span during the bottom of the first inning.
These defensive miscues put the Yankees in an early hole and contributed significantly to their defeat. In the opening inning alone, three errors were recorded behind pitcher Cam Schlittler, matching the team's hit total for much of the game. The Yankees did not record a hit until Ben Rice hit his second solo home run of the game with one out in the eighth inning.
The Yankees' performance has been heavily criticized, with the team unable to execute fundamental baseball plays when it mattered most. The loss means the Yankees must win Game 3 to avoid being eliminated from the postseason.
