Yamamoto Takes Mound for Dodgers in NLCS Game 2 After Series Opening Loss
Los Angeles aims to even the series against the Brewers with their ace starting Game 2.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto is set to pitch for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers, seeking to tie the series after a Game 1 defeat. Yamamoto, the Dodgers' ace and last year's World Series MVP, will take the mound in Milwaukee.
In his postseason career, Yamamoto has been a significant factor for the Dodgers, who have won 10 of the 11 playoff games he has appeared in since joining the team. Over 63 innings pitched, he has allowed 15 earned runs. This season, he made one start, going 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA, giving up four hits and one earned run over seven innings, with 10 strikeouts against the Atlanta Braves.
The Dodgers secured their spot in the NLCS by winning the National League West. Their team has been built through consistent additions, including a closer and a top hitter in the offseason, and a mid-season acquisition of pitcher Tarik Skubal. The team is aiming for their third World Series title in recent years.
Milwaukee, conversely, has reached this stage without the same level of high-profile acquisitions. The Brewers have a solid team that has seen key contributors depart but continues to find ways to win. They enter Game 2 with home-field advantage.
The Brewers are expected to counter with Logan Henderson, who posted an 11-3 record with a 2.47 ERA and a 0.84 WHIP during the regular season. Henderson previously faced the Padres, allowing one earned run over five innings, and has a track record against the Dodgers, giving up just one earned run over 12 innings across two starts this year, with 13 strikeouts.
In Game 1, the Dodgers managed only one run despite generating baserunners and hitting the ball well. The Brewers tied the game with a home run and later scored the go-ahead run through a walk, bunt, and single. The Dodgers are looking to rebound offensively and even the series as Yamamoto pitches Game 2.
