Wyndham Clark captured the BMW Championship, the second event in the FedExCup playoffs, along with its $3.6 million first-place prize. However, his victory at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis was accompanied by controversy surrounding his actions on the 14th hole during the final round.

While preparing to hit his second shot from the rough, Clark made at least seven practice swings and changed clubs twice. This process drew the attention of the broadcast crew, with commentators noting Clark's extensive assessment and multiple club selections. "So the lie might be better," remarked analyst Frank Nobilo, hinting at a potential advantage gained from the practice swings.

Clark ultimately executed a successful 173-yard shot to the green, leaving him about 24 feet from the hole. He finished the hole with a par after missing a birdie attempt. The incident drew comparisons to a situation at the British Open where Bryson DeChambeau received a two-shot penalty for improving his lie in tall grass.

Social media users also questioned whether Clark should have been penalized, with some recalling a previous incident where he allegedly damaged the locker room at Oakmont during the 2025 U.S. Open. Despite the scrutiny, Clark birdied his final three holes to finish the round at even par (70) and secured a three-shot victory over Patrick Cantlay with a tournament total of 17-under. Rory McIlroy finished in third place at 13-under.
