Golfer Wyndham Clark shared that a past animosity between himself and Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield was rooted in infidelity. Clark, who recently won the 2026 U.S. Open, disclosed the information during an appearance on the "Pardon My Take" podcast.
Clark recalled a 2016 social media post where he expressed animosity towards Mayfield, explaining that his then-girlfriend cheated on him with the NFL player. "My girlfriend at the time cheated on me with Baker Mayfield," Clark stated on the podcast. Despite the past conflict, Clark added that he now considers himself a fan of Mayfield.
Clark did not identify the ex-girlfriend. Mayfield has been married to Emily Wilkinson Mayfield since 2019. The couple met through a mutual acquaintance in 2017 and became engaged six months later.
In 2016, Clark was a college golfer, having transferred from Oklahoma State to the University of Oregon. Mayfield was gaining national recognition as the star quarterback for the University of Oklahoma, en route to winning the Heisman Trophy.
Clark's recent victory at the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills saw him finish 4-under par, securing a wire-to-wire win. He defeated Sam Burns by one stroke, despite facing significant crowd heckling during the final round. Following his win, Clark acknowledged past actions that he regretted, issuing apologies and expressing hope for eventual fan acceptance.
Previously, Clark was banned by Oakmont after damaging locker room facilities during the 2025 U.S. Open. He was reinstated after apologizing publicly, covering the damages, making a charitable contribution, and completing anger management.
