Legendary WWE announcer Jim Ross announced he is preparing for brain surgery after a hospital stay that lasted nearly 40 days. Ross, 74, shared the health update on his podcast, "Grilling JR," stating the procedure is necessary to address fluid buildup in his brain.
"I gotta get it addressed, I couldn't live my life the way it was, you know. I forget s*** and just couldn't remember things. It's just horrible. I felt horrible," Ross said, detailing the memory issues that have impacted him. He explained that these issues began after he passed out at home and subsequently required the extended hospital stay.
Ross has not yet been given a confirmed date for the surgery but anticipates it will occur within the next week. "It's fairly serious," Ross commented about the upcoming procedure. "I always feel like anytime they open your skull up that’s a serious piece of business and this certainly feels that way."
The wrestling personality, who currently works for rival promotion AEW, has faced several health challenges in recent years. He has dealt with Bell's Palsy, a condition causing facial paralysis, since 1994. Two years prior to his recent hospitalization, Ross was admitted to the hospital due to shortness of breath.
His appearances on AEW have become less frequent due to ongoing health problems, though he did provide commentary for the company's Double or Nothing event in May. Following his surgery, Ross expects a brief hospital stay and then a period of recovery at home.
