WNBA MVP A'ja Wilson Collides With Arena Staffer in Phoenix
The Las Vegas Aces star accidentally ran into a staff member before a game against the Mercury.
During pre-game introductions in Phoenix on Thursday night, Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson inadvertently collided with an arena staffer. The incident occurred as Wilson was making her way onto the court and the staffer, who was partially obscured behind a curtain, stepped out.
Video footage shows Wilson, a 6-foot-4 three-time WNBA champion, knocking the staffer backward. Wilson immediately stopped upon realizing what had happened, her expression conveying shock. Aces teammate Chelsea Gray, who was behind Wilson, also appeared stunned by the collision.
Witnesses reported that the staffer rose quickly from the floor and appeared to be unharmed. A fan who recorded the incident told TMZ that the worker was "fine."
Despite the brief disruption, the Aces went on to defeat the Phoenix Mercury 100-82, securing their seventh consecutive win to conclude the regular season. This victory positions the Aces as the No. 3 seed heading into the playoffs.
Wilson had a standout performance in the game, leading all scorers with 34 points and adding 10 rebounds. She finished the regular season by winning her third consecutive WNBA scoring title, averaging 26.2 points per game. Wilson also averaged 9.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.4 steals per game over the season.
The Aces (31-13) are set to host the Indiana Fever in Game 1 of their best-of-three playoff series on Sunday at 4 p.m. ET. The Aces are aiming for their fourth championship in the last five years, having had their potential four-peat interrupted by the New York Liberty in 2024. The Aces swept the Mercury in the playoffs last year.
