WNBA player NaLyssa Smith has publicly refuted accusations of cheating made by her ex-girlfriend, DiJonai Carrington. Carrington, a player for the Chicago Sky, publicly accused Smith of infidelity with multiple WNBA players, including Deja Kelly and Aaliyah Nye, following their confirmed split late last year.

Smith addressed the allegations in a Twitch video, expressing her dismay that Carrington had brought the matter to public attention a year after their breakup. "Whether she cheated on me and I cheated on her, why are we bringing that to the internet a year later when nobody did anything to anybody?" Smith questioned. "Whether she cheated on me or I cheated on her, that has nothing to do with anybody. Like what? That don’t even make sense."

Carrington is rumored to be in a new relationship with Jackie Young, a teammate of Smith's on the Las Vegas Aces, although this has not been officially confirmed. Smith suggested that Carrington's public accusations might be linked to her own new relationship.

Smith also criticized Carrington for involving the names of Kelly and Nye in the dispute. "Then, to bring up folks name that has nothing to do with anything. These folks is minding their business," Smith stated. "That’s ridiculous, especially when you’re in a happy, healthy relationship. I would never in my life do that to nobody if I was in a happy, healthy relationship. These folks woke up to this s*** on a random Sunday... I think that's very weird."

While the exact trigger for Carrington's social media post remains unclear, Smith implied it may have stemmed from an interaction during the WNBA All-Star game held in Chicago. "I'm saying I'm the victim in that situation for sure. I didn’t do nothing. I didn’t bother nobody," Smith said. "We came to the spot. Folks was chilling. Nobody did nothing to nobody. I didn’t go out of my way to bother anybody or come to somewhere uninvited. But I guess the liquor, the cameras, her crowd, I guess she got some type of... somebody boosted her up to gain some confidence."

When Carrington announced their separation in November 2025, she indicated the split was amicable, stating, "We're good but we're not together any more. It was on good terms. We just grew in different directions."

Carrington has not yet played for the Chicago Sky in the current season due to an injury, but had been expected to make her debut after the All-Star break. The Sky are scheduled to play the Aces in Chicago on August 1, a matchup that could be particularly notable if Carrington is cleared to play.

In a past interview with Angel Reese, Carrington commented on her identity, stating, "I don't be like 'oh I'm gay, I'm gay'. I'm not gay, I just like Lyss, you know." Reese responded with laughter, adding, "That's what she says."

Neither Deja Kelly nor Aaliyah Nye have publicly responded to Carrington's claims. Both players entered the league last season, with Nye drafted from Alabama and Kelly from Oregon. Both signed with the Las Vegas Aces in 2025. Nye currently plays for the Atlanta Dream, and Kelly plays for the Charlotte Crown in the UpShot League.
