The WNBA has released a statement addressing a social media post that depicted players Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers discussing a bet. The league acknowledged the post was a "blunder" and confirmed it was removed shortly after publication.

"While the social media post was intended to be lighthearted, WNBA players are well aware of the league’s policies prohibiting betting on WNBA games and receive training every year reinforcing those policies," the league stated. "We recognized that the post missed the mark, removed it shortly after it was published, and addressed the matter internally. We will also use this as an opportunity to reemphasize with the players involved that conversations about wagering on WNBA games, even when intended as a joke, can have negative consequences."

According to a league source, neither Reese nor Bueckers have been issued a punishment.

The incident originated during the WNBA's All-Star weekend, where Reese and Bueckers reportedly agreed to a $400 wager, contingent on the outcome of a game between the Atlanta Dream and the Dallas Wings. The bet was for the teams' first matchup following the All-Star break on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

Following the Dream's 82-81 victory over the Wings, Reese commented on the bet, saying, "Yeah I’ll be requesting my Apple Pay after this." The WNBA had initially posted a video of the players discussing the wager at an All-Star weekend practice, which was subsequently deleted. The collective bargaining agreement between the WNBA and its players prohibits wagering on league games.

In the deleted video, Reese was seen holding a wad of cash and stated, "I know y’all gonna lose … but if y’all win, you get the $400." She added, "You owe me $400 [if the Dream beat the Wings]."

Bueckers, in a separate clip from the video, responded with a laugh, saying she would "stand on" the bet as she walked toward the tunnel before the game.

Both players performed during the game. Reese, a three-time All-Star, recorded a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Bueckers, the 2025 Rookie of the Year, contributed 16 points, six assists, and one steal. The Atlanta Dream currently hold a 17-10 record and are scheduled to host Seattle on Friday. The Dallas Wings, with an 18-10 record, are set to travel to Washington.
