Will Ospreay has officially declared himself "the standard" in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) following his championship victory. Ospreay, who won the AEW World Championship on August 30, 2026, at All In, learned on Wednesday's 'Dynamite' that his first title defense will be against Jon Moxley at All Out on September 26.
In an impassioned promo, Ospreay acknowledged the lineage of AEW champions, including past titleholders like Kenny Omega, Bryan Danielson, and Jon Moxley himself. "These guys were once-upon-a-time my heroes," Ospreay stated. "Now the reality is, I’m amongst all of them. I worked hard for this, mate. All my idols, they’re now my rivals." He then asserted his new status, proclaiming, "I am the standard now. I am the Billy goat. I am the best in the world. I am your AEW world champion."
The confrontation leading to the title match announcement occurred after a 10-man tag team match on 'Dynamite.' Ospreay's team secured a victory, but a post-match assault saw members of The Death Riders faction, aligned with Moxley, target Ospreay with a chair. Moxley intervened, taking the chair and then, in a surprising turn, handed Ospreay his own championship belt back. This gesture signaled Moxley's intent to challenge Ospreay for the title.
Also earning a guaranteed title shot is Andrade El Idolo, who won the Casino Gauntlet match. However, the immediate focus is on the upcoming clash between Ospreay and Moxley at All Out. Moxley has previously aided Ospreay in his recovery from a neck injury and presented him with a Union Jack flag before his All In match, indicating a complex relationship between the two wrestlers heading into their championship bout.
