Will Levis, once a highly touted prospect, is now facing a precarious situation in his National Football League career after being released by the Tennessee Titans and subsequently going unclaimed on waivers. As of Tuesday morning, no team had added the quarterback to its active roster, leaving him to potentially accept a practice squad position or face the possibility of being out of the league entirely.
Levis, 27, has appeared in 21 games across the 2023 and 2024 seasons, accumulating 21 touchdown passes against 16 interceptions. His tenure has also been marked by ball security issues, with 10 fumbles lost in those two years. His 10 fumbles in 17 games from 2023-2024 were the second-highest total in the NFL during that span, trailing only Lamar Jackson, who played in 33 games.
Levis missed the 2025 season due to shoulder surgery. Previously, he expressed confidence in his abilities, stating, "There are not 32 quarterbacks in this league better than me." However, the lack of interest from other teams suggests that NFL evaluators may perceive at least 64 quarterbacks as superior.
During his time with the Titans, Levis experienced notable moments of criticism. Former head coach and now Giants quarterbacks coach Brian Callahan was famously heard yelling from the sideline, "What the f–k are you doing?" after Levis fumbled during a game against the Jets. This incident followed a previous game where Levis threw a pick-six in a season-opening loss to the Bears, ultimately leading to him being benched.
The Titans have since drafted Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick and are slated to have Mitchell Trubisky as a backup. Levis' current status highlights a significant downturn from his earlier projections as a potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. His NFL career now appears to be in serious jeopardy without an active roster spot.
