West Indies Set New ODI Record With 405-7 Against India
Centuries from Campbell, Hope, and Jangoo powered the tourists to their highest-ever one-day international total.
The West Indies cricket team achieved their highest-ever total in a one-day international match, scoring 405-7 against India in the second ODI in Guwahati. This record-breaking performance was driven by three centuries from John Campbell (101), Shai Hope (104), and Amir Jangoo (114).
This marks only the sixth occasion in ODI history where a team has featured three centurions in a single innings. The West Indies' previous best score was 389, set against England in 2019. The partnership of 182 runs between Hope and Jangoo was particularly instrumental in building the record total.
Campbell, the left-handed opener, contributed to the rapid scoring with five sixes in his century and notably took 22 runs off a single over from Indian bowler Prasidh Krishna. Krishna and Naman Dhir sustained injuries during the match. For debutant Auqib Nabi, the match was a challenging one, as he conceded 84 runs, making it the fourth-highest runs conceded by an Indian player on their ODI debut.
This remarkable batting display comes shortly after news that West Indies players are facing a 25% pay cut as part of cost-saving measures. The team is also in a challenging position regarding qualification for the next World Cup, potentially facing a qualifier tournament in early 2027.
