The Metropolitan Police confirmed that enhanced security measures were in place for the match, with approximately 400 officers deployed. Ahead of kickoff, Millwall fans directed jeers and verbal abuse at the West Ham team bus upon its arrival.
Reports indicated audible shouts, including offensive language, and rude gestures directed at the coach carrying the West Ham players. This occurred following a Friday night operation where 26 individuals were arrested in connection with a planned confrontation at The Carpenters pub in Stratford, a known haunt for West Ham fans.
