Wayne Rooney Open to Management Return, Identifies Two Premier League Clubs

Wayne Rooney, the legendary former England and Manchester United captain, has indicated he would consider a return to football management, but only for two specific clubs: Manchester United and Everton. Rooney, who dedicated a significant portion of his playing career to both clubs, expressed this sentiment in a recent interview.

Having managed Derby County, D.C. United, Birmingham City, and most recently Plymouth Argyle until December 2024, Rooney described his past four managerial roles as "difficult." He suggested that a return to management is "unlikely" but that he could see himself returning to either Manchester United or Everton "in any capacity."

Rooney spent 13 years at Manchester United, making 559 appearances and scoring 253 goals, becoming the club's all-time leading scorer. He later returned to his boyhood club, Everton, for a season in 2017.

When asked which of the two clubs he would prioritize if both offered him a position, Rooney responded, "The one that comes first."

Following his departure from Plymouth, Rooney has taken on a role as a pundit, which he stated has given him "purpose." He admitted there is a possibility he will never manage again and is currently enjoying his punditry work, including appearances on "Match of the Day," viewing it as an opportunity to learn and improve.

In addition to discussing his managerial future, Rooney also addressed recent commentary on his physical transformation, revealing he has been working "really hard" in the gym to lose weight.
