The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has unveiled its new home kit, a design that has prompted a divided response from supporters. The shirt, produced by new sportswear partner Sudu, replaces Adidas after a 13-year collaboration.
The FAW stated that the kit's pattern is "inspired by the rich tradition of Welsh double cloth weaving" and that Sudu worked with the association and fans "to understand the DNA of the nation." The association also noted that the kit rejects "reused designs."
However, some fans have taken to social media to express their disapproval, with comparisons made to bus seat patterns. One widely shared comment described the shirt as potentially the "worst Welsh shirt in history" and questioned the design process. Another commenter noted that while the design itself might be acceptable, the switch from Adidas to Sudu for a kit of this nature could be a point of contention.
The FAW acknowledged that reactions to football kits are "subjective" but emphasized its pride in the "creative process behind the new Cymru home kit."
Prices for the new kit have also drawn attention. The "pro" version of the adult shirt is priced at £90, with matching shorts and socks costing an additional £46, bringing the total to £136. A replica adult shirt is available for £70, and a child's full kit is priced at £89.
Comparatively, England's most expensive adult home shirt is on sale for £134.99, while Scotland's replica shirt costs £75, placing Wales' premium offering at the higher end of the market among home nations.
