Wakefield Trinity Celebrates Historic Super League Title with City-Wide Bus Parade

Thousands of rugby league fans filled the streets of Wakefield on Sunday to celebrate the Wakefield Trinity team's historic Super League Grand Final victory. The team secured their first championship title since 1968 with a 23-10 win over the Warrington Wolves at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The victory parade featured two open-top buses carrying players and staff, traveling from the club's Belle Vue ground to Wakefield Town Hall for a civic reception. Fans, many waving flags and wearing team colors, lined the city center streets to catch a glimpse of the team and the Super League trophy.

Max Jowitt, the team's fullback who scored three goals in the final, described the experience as "unbelievable." "The fans have been unbelievable, the city is unbelievable and the trophy's unbelievable," Jowitt said.

The buses arrived at the town hall around 3:00 PM, where the team was met by jubilant supporters. Jane Robinson, whose late husband was a lifelong fan, attended the game at Old Trafford and joined the celebrations. "It was absolutely out of this world - the atmosphere was electric," she said, adding, "You can't help but think how good this has been for Wakefield."

Among the fans was young supporter Jasper, wearing a tri-colored wig purchased by his grandfather. He described the excitement at the game as "everyone was screaming and shouting" whenever Trinity scored. His mother, Sarah, echoed the sentiment, calling the win "an incredible feeling."

Melvyn Moyles, who has supported the team for decades, expressed his excitement. "I can remember the good old days – and the bad old days," Moyles said. "Wakefield is back – look out everybody."

Following the public parade and reception, a ticketed fan celebration was held at WX on Union Street, featuring player appearances, speeches, and highlights from the Grand Final on large screens.
