Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Toronto Blue Jays is undergoing concussion testing after a collision in the sixth inning of Friday night's 3-1 victory against the New York Yankees.

Manager John Schneider stated that Guerrero Jr. was evaluated for a concussion after taking a knee to the head. "Checking him out, he got hit pretty good with the knee there from [George Lombard Jr.] there in the head," Schneider said. "They’re checking him out. Had a little bit of a headache, took him out, kind of precautionary right now. We’ll see how he is tomorrow."

The incident occurred during a chaotic play where Guerrero Jr., who started at first base, advanced to third. As multiple players converged, Yankees shortstop George Lombard Jr. collided with Guerrero Jr., appearing to strike him in the head with his knee. Guerrero Jr. had been running to third base after a throwing error by Yankees third baseman Ryan McMahon allowed the runners to advance.

Despite the injury, the play resulted in Guerrero Jr. scoring to tie the game at 1-1. The Blue Jays then took a 2-1 lead on the next pitch.

Guerrero Jr. is having what has been described as a down year, but the Blue Jays cannot afford to lose a player of his caliber, especially as the team has been heating up and is currently one game behind the third wild-card spot in the league standings. The team will await the results of his evaluation on Saturday to determine his availability for the remainder of the series.
