Pro wrestling holds a unique and unparalleled place in American entertainment, according to Violent J of the Insane Clown Posse. In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, the artist, whose real name is Joseph Bruce, explained the multifaceted appeal of professional wrestling, likening it to a "male soap opera" that captivates audiences through a complex interplay of performance and athleticism.
Bruce pinpointed the Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat match at WrestleMania 3 as a pivotal moment that solidified his lifelong passion for the sport. He emphasized that professional wrestling requires a diverse skill set, encompassing acting, storytelling, and the ability to connect with a live audience. "You have to make people want to come see you kick that guy's a-- or make you want to come see you get revenge," Bruce stated. "You also have to have the physical attributes. You have to be able to physically go in the ring and tell that story."
Beyond the physical demands, Bruce highlighted the psychological elements inherent in wrestling. "There's so much psychological warfare in wrestling. There's so much psychological stuff that goes into it," he said. "You have to feel the crowd and know how to make them reach their apex."
For Bruce, wrestling serves as a source of both enjoyment and personal therapy. He described watching old matches as a calming influence that transports him back to his childhood. "It calms my anxiety. Like it's been there my whole life," he explained. "So, it's like I look at that old footage, it's like therapy for me. It has been there my entire life."
He further elaborated on the deeply personal connection he has with the sport, stating, "There's nothing like wrestling. Like there's literally nothing else like it. It's so different from everything else in the stratosphere that like I've just I've loved it my whole life."
Bruce, who is 53 years old, continues to find enjoyment in watching the sport, particularly the matches from his formative years. His promotion, Juggalo Championship Wrestling, airs "Lunacy" weekly on YouTube, and he is set to host Bloodymania 19 at the Gathering of the Juggalos in Missouri.
