Veteran professional wrestlers Seth Rollins and Kenny Omega have recently alluded to the twilight of their careers, signaling a potential shift in the landscape of top-tier wrestling. These acknowledgments coincide with high-stakes championship matches, reminding fans to appreciate established stars while new talent rises.
During an episode of WWE's "Monday Night Raw," Rollins challenged Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam, framing the potential bout as a significant, possibly final, encounter between the two.
"This may be your last chance to close that loop," Rollins told Reigns. "We are much closer to the end than we are to the beginning. And just like it was when we came in, young, hungry, ready to take over there is a new generation of young men and women coming in and ready to do the same thing to us."
Rollins, who is in his 40s, has also faced injuries, underscoring the physical toll of professional wrestling and the increasing difficulty of recovery with age.
On All Elite Wrestling's "Dynamite," Kenny Omega accepted a stipulation to challenge MJF for the AEW World Championship. If Omega loses, he will be barred from future title challenges. Omega reflected on his career, stating, "There’s been no greater passion, no greater pleasure than stepping through these ropes and giving you people everything that I have."
He added, "There’s still a little bit left in the tank. There’s a part of me that thinks if I can believe, if Will (Ospreay) can believe, if the Young Bucks can believe, if you people can believe just one more time, then I know I could be a champion that each and every one of you can be proud of."
These moments serve as a reminder to fans that the wrestlers who have defined the sport for the past two decades are nearing the end of their in-ring careers.
