Verstappen Wins Singapore Sprint Amid Russell Crash

Max Verstappen has clinched the sprint race victory at the Singapore Grand Prix, a race delayed by 30 minutes due to torrential rain. This marks the second consecutive Formula One event postponed due to adverse weather, following a similar delay at the Malaysian Grand Prix.

George Russell, who had started from pole position and was leading the sprint, slid off track on the final bend of the first lap after mistaking a white line. "Sorry, sorry, sorry," Russell said to his team after the incident. The crash ended his hopes for the weekend.

Verstappen went on to win by 2.5 seconds. Lewis Hamilton finished second for Ferrari, having moved up from sixth on the grid with a strong start. Charles Leclerc, Hamilton's teammate, secured third place. The McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were involved in a crash at the end of the race.

Russell's misjudgement occurred while the track was still wet, though the spray was affecting drivers behind him rather than himself. His world championship campaign is now effectively over, with championship leader Kimi Antonelli holding an 88-point lead over Russell heading into qualifying. A maximum of 175 points are still available in the remaining scheduled races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi, with Imola as a potential alternative venue should those events be cancelled.
