Verstappen Criticizes 'Unacceptable' Bumps at Austin Track

Max Verstappen has described the Circuit of the Americas track in Austin as "unacceptable" due to its excessive bumps, which he claims are detrimental to his spine. The four-time world champion stated that he and his fellow Formula 1 drivers have lodged complaints with the FIA regarding the condition of the circuit but have seen no resolution.

Verstappen, speaking ahead of the US Grand Prix, characterized the track as "out of control" and emphasized that while temporary fixes have been applied, they do not address the fundamental issue. "You need to open up the track fully (to sort it out)," Verstappen said. "That costs a lot of money and time but that's the only way to get rid of it because these bumps are not natural."

The Circuit of the Americas, which began hosting races 14 years ago, was designed by Hermann Tilke and is situated on marshland. Verstappen, 29, noted that while soil conditions may be a factor, more substantial reinforcement is necessary. "You can say soil is the problem, but you need to make sure you reinforce it more."

Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli, 20, has an opportunity to secure the title at this event in the US if he can extend his current 102-point lead to 125 with five rounds remaining in the season.
