Van Dijk: Barcola's Hat-Trick a Major Boost
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk believes Bradley Barcola's Champions League hat-trick will significantly aid the young winger's confidence and development.
Virgil van Dijk stated that Bradley Barcola's hat-trick in Liverpool's Champions League match against LASK will be a significant confidence booster for the winger. Barcola, described by Van Dijk as "introverted," scored three goals in the team's victory over the Austrian champions, helping Liverpool maintain a perfect European record.
Van Dijk, who came on as a substitute in the second half, commented on Barcola's performance, highlighting that such a feat in the Champions League is a major achievement. "It's about creating the environment where he can express himself on the pitch," Van Dijk said. "As a footballer, you always want to be out there, showing what you can do. For him, scoring goals is a big part of his game. To get a hat-trick in the Champions League is a great thing for him and for us."
Addressing the pressure of a high transfer fee, a situation Van Dijk has experienced himself, he offered advice to Barcola. "You can share experiences for sure. It's about helping each other to succeed. We're in it together. Bradley is getting into it now. He'll be absolutely fine," Van Dijk added.
Van Dijk also mentioned that he is still recovering from a calf kick sustained in a previous match against Manchester City. He noted that his surprise omission from the starting lineup was unusual for him but indicated he expects to be fit for Saturday's game.
