Valtteri Bottas Completes 419km Cycle Commute to Singapore Grand Prix
Formula One driver opted for an arduous off-road journey instead of a private jet following the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Formula One driver Valtteri Bottas has completed a 419-kilometer (260-mile) bicycle journey from Malaysia to Singapore to attend the Grand Prix this weekend. Bottas, 37, eschewed private air travel, opting instead for an overland route that he documented on social media.
The journey began shortly after the chaotic Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday. Bottas posted a selfie on Wednesday afternoon, announcing, '419.67km commute,' with a checkmark emoji, confirming the completion of his trip. He also shared a photo of a 'certificate of completion' for the feat.
In earlier posts, Bottas shared videos of his ride, including cycling at night on gravel roads. He was accompanied by his partner, professional cyclist Tiffany Cromwell. The duo aimed to arrive by Thursday to meet media commitments ahead of the race.
During the multi-day trip, Bottas covered significant distances, including 161.91 kilometers on Monday alone, a ride that took nearly six hours. He continued to make up mileage on Tuesday.
This cycling endeavor is not out of character for Bottas, who has a history of participating in cycling events. This summer, he qualified for the Gravel World Championships by finishing fifth in an off-road qualifying event in the Czech Republic, though he will be unable to compete in the main event due to the timing of the F1 schedule. He is also involved with FNLD GRVL, an annual race in his native Finland.
Bottas, who has ten F1 career wins, is currently in his first season with Cadillac after serving as a reserve driver for Mercedes last year. The 2026 season has been challenging, with the driver yet to score any points after 16 races and failing to finish eight of them.
