Utah State Linebacker Hospitalized With Neck Injury After Apparent Collision
Harrison Taggart was taken off the field by ambulance and is undergoing evaluation for a neck injury.
Utah State linebacker Harrison Taggart was transported to the hospital by ambulance during Saturday's game against No. 17 Utah after sustaining a neck injury. Taggart, the team's leading tackler, suffered the injury in the second quarter while attempting to make a tackle.
As Taggart was being placed into the ambulance, he raised his arm and index finger. He was taken to the University of Utah Hospital on campus, where officials confirmed he is in concussion protocol and has a neck injury. Taggart had recorded five tackles in the game prior to his injury. He had accumulated 13 tackles in the first two games of the season.
The incident occurred when Taggart leaned in to tackle Utah running back Daniel Bray. Taggart's head made contact with Bray's knee, and his body went limp, though he showed slight movement in his arms and legs. Both teams' players knelt on the field as medical personnel attended to Taggart. He was placed on a stretcher and loaded into the ambulance as his teammates, who were trailing 16-0 at the time, surrounded him.
Hours earlier on Saturday, Iowa State cornerback Jaheim Singletary was released from a hospital after a collision with a teammate during the Cyclones' game against Bowling Green. Singletary was taken off the field on a backboard and carted away after running into linebacker Willie Breland III. Singletary was later reported to be showing movement in his extremities and was released from the hospital after further evaluation.
