The United States men's national team (USMNT) secured the second-fastest goal in their World Cup history on Thursday, with Auston Trusty scoring just over two minutes into their match against Turkey. This early goal marked the Americans' first of the game, coming off a corner kick from Sebastian Berhalter.

Trusty received the ball from Berhalter, gathered it quickly, and kicked it past Turkey's goalie Ugurcan Çakir into the back of the net. It was Trusty's first international career goal. This marks the third consecutive World Cup game where Team USA has scored within the first 10 minutes.

The goal ranks as the second-fastest in U.S. World Cup history, surpassed only by Clint Dempsey's goal in the 2014 match against Ghana, which occurred just 30 seconds into play. Turkey managed to equalize less than seven minutes later with a goal from Arda Güler, their first of the tournament after two previous scoreless games.

The USMNT had already clinched advancement to the knockout stage as the top team in their group following victories over Paraguay and Australia. This marks the first time in the modern World Cup era that the United States has won its initial two group stage matches. A win or a draw against Turkey would give the United States its best-ever World Cup group stage finish.
