French tennis player Lois Boisson's frustration boiled over after her first-round exit from the US Open on Monday, with a clip of her destroying her racket going viral.
Boisson, 23, was defeated by American Emma Navarro with a final score of 7-6, 6-7, 6-3. Immediately after the handshake at the net, Boisson began smashing her racket repeatedly on the court.
In the same moment captured by cameras, Navarro was seen waving to the crowd, appearing unaware of Boisson's outburst. The match had been initially suspended on Sunday due to rain, forcing a restart on Monday.
Navarro commented on the postponement, noting the unusual circumstances. "It was really tough stopping at the point of the match we were at," Navarro said. "I just felt like I had worked really hard to get to that point, and then all of a sudden, it's like we're gonna come out tomorrow and we both have a clean slate. It's it's really unique because you feel like you should feel like you're ahead, but you kind of don't."
Despite leading before the rain delay, Navarro acknowledged the challenge of finding her rhythm again. "It was really tough. Kind of took me a little while to find my bearings," she said. "I think it was after I got broken in the third when I was like, okay, now I know I'm where I want to be. I'm ready to play."
Navarro is scheduled to face the winner of the match between Catherine McNally and Anouk Koevermans in the next round. The match concluded later on Monday afternoon.
