UCF Knights Unveil 'Space U' Uniforms Honoring Early Space Programs

The UCF Knights are set to debut their "Mission X" uniforms for their annual Space Game, celebrating the foundational Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo space programs. This marks the tenth year the Knights have donned space-themed attire, with this year's design specifically honoring the pioneers of 1960s space exploration.

Established in 1963 as Florida Technological University, UCF has a long-standing connection to the nearby Kennedy Space Center, serving as a significant pipeline for talent. The "Mission X" uniforms incorporate several elements inspired by the early space race.

The jersey's black stitching is a nod to the space suits of the Mercury program, while the cuffs feature "Canaveral blue" on one side and red on the other, mirroring the Gemini program's suits. The collar is also "Canaveral blue," a color that has become a signature for UCF's Space Game uniforms.

Patches on the shoulders are designed to resemble those worn during the Gemini missions, with the specific "Mission X" patch modeled after the Gemini X mission patch. The pants display the school's original Citronaut mascot alongside striping patterns reminiscent of those found on Apollo program rockets and space suits. Completing the look, the helmets feature a bold red stripe, a detail that adorned the helmets of Apollo mission commanders.

These new uniforms will make their debut on October 30 when the Knights host the Baylor Bears at the Acrisure Bounce House.
