U2 to Headline Inaugural NFL Thanksgiving Eve Halftime Show on Netflix
The Irish rock band will perform during the league's first-ever Thanksgiving Eve game, a matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and Green Bay Packers.
The NFL is adding a new tradition to its holiday schedule, with Irish rock band U2 set to perform during the halftime show of the league's inaugural Thanksgiving Eve game. The matchup, featuring the Los Angeles Rams against the Green Bay Packers, will be streamed on Netflix from SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, "There's a reason U2 has headlined stadiums for decades: they don't just perform, they deliver iconic moments audiences remember forever. We’re thrilled that they’ll bring that same magic to the NFL stage on Netflix. It’s going to be an unforgettable night for football fans and Netflix members worldwide."
U2 has a history of significant performances, including their halftime show at Super Bowl XXXVI in 2002. That performance, held in the months following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, featured Bono displaying an American flag lining on the inside of his jacket while the names of victims were shown behind the band. The band was also the first to perform at the Sphere in Las Vegas, indicating their capacity for large-scale productions.
The Thanksgiving Eve game, and U2's performance, are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, November 27.
