Tuchel Criticizes Palmer for 'Missing Too Many Camps'

England manager Thomas Tuchel has voiced strong criticism of Chelsea playmaker Cole Palmer, stating the player misses 'way too many camps' with the national team. Palmer withdrew from the latest England squad earlier this week, with Chelsea sources citing a minor muscular injury that required personal oversight.

Tuchel described Palmer's latest absence as 'another missed opportunity,' highlighting a pattern of withdrawals that prevents the player from impressing the manager on the pitch. "I don’t blame him for it. It’s just the fact he misses way too many camps with injuries," Tuchel said. "If you’re not in camp, there’s a next level to impress that you cannot achieve, because you only can do it when you're with me on the pitch. So, yes, it is a missed opportunity."

Palmer was also absent from the squad that will face Spain, Czechia, and Croatia in upcoming Nations League fixtures. He is one of several players to withdraw from the current international break, including Declan Rice, Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford, and Tino Livramento.

Palmer's withdrawal comes despite his strong start to the Premier League season for Chelsea, where he has featured in all five matches, scoring twice and providing two assists. He has played the full 90 minutes in four of those games. His form had earned him a recall to the England squad.

Tuchel indicated that his focus would be on players demonstrating a clear desire to represent England. "My understanding is that he plays with discomfort and pain and he cannot compete at the highest level with discomfort and pain," Tuchel stated regarding Palmer's situation. "So he withdrew. He informed us, and Chelsea informed us. That is my understanding."

The England manager emphasized the competitive nature of the national team environment. "This is not an international break. I think that’s what we've created now. This is a competitive environment. This is also an environment that players love to be at," he added. "We will never let this creep in that we have the feeling that players don’t want to come. It’s fair enough, but we focus on the guys who absolutely want to play for England."
