San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams has expressed strong optimism regarding the recovery of defensive end Nick Bosa, stating that Bosa looks better than he did prior to tearing his ACL. Bosa's injury in Week 3 of the 2025 season cut short his campaign and impacted the team's defensive performance.

Williams, speaking from training camp, noted that Bosa is not showing any of the typical signs of muscle loss or hesitation associated with a severe knee injury. "I couldn’t even tell that he had an injury or he came back from anything," Williams said. "Bosa looks better than he did before he got hurt last year."

Williams attributed Bosa's condition to his dedication and work ethic. "That’s just a commitment to him and how hard he works," Williams said. "A guy that successful, for his motor to still run as high as it does, I think it’s just a testament to his character."

The 49ers' pass rush struggled significantly last season, finishing last in the NFL with only 20 sacks and ranking 31st in pressure rate at 26.8%. Without Bosa, the defense's pressure rate dropped to 26.2%, with sacks occurring on just 3% of opposing dropbacks. When Bosa was on the field, however briefly, the team's pressure rate increased to 32.3%.

While Bosa cannot single-handedly fix the entire pass rush, his presence is expected to restore disruption to the defense and create more favorable matchups for other linemen under new defensive coordinator Raheem Morris. The 49ers are anticipating the return of several injured players, but Bosa's impact is considered paramount.

Other defensive players are also working through injuries. Former All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner missed a significant portion of last season. Second-year defensive end Mykel Williams is also recovering from an ACL tear, with an uncertain timeline for his return. Defensive tackle Alfred Collins is dealing with a shoulder injury but is expected back during the second phase of training camp. Rookie Romello Height was briefly a concern after being carted off due to cramps.

Following last season's historically ineffective pass rush, the 49ers are hoping Bosa's apparent recovery will translate into on-field success beyond training camp optimism. San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams (71) walks off the field after win against the Philadelphia Eagles
