Trent Rockets maintained their winning momentum in The Hundred women's competition, securing a narrow five-run victory against defending champions Sunrisers Leeds at Trent Bridge. The win marks the Rockets' third consecutive triumph.

Electing to bat, Trent Rockets posted 139-7 in their allotted 100 balls. Sophia Dunkley was the standout performer with the bat, scoring 56 runs off just 33 deliveries, including nine boundaries. Her innings, following a 57 in the previous match, provided a strong foundation for the Rockets. Nat Sciver-Brunt and Ashleigh Gardner also contributed, helping the team pass the 100-run mark within 65 balls.

However, Sunrisers Leeds' bowlers, led by Jess Jonassen and Hannah Baker who took two wickets each, applied pressure and restricted the Rockets' scoring in the latter stages. A period where the Rockets went 32 deliveries without a boundary saw them fall short of a potentially larger total. Late hitting from Bess Heath added valuable runs in the final set, pushing the score to a competitive total.

Late Surge by Sunrisers

Chasing 139, Sunrisers Leeds found themselves in a difficult position at 76-4. A late surge, however, threatened to derail the Rockets' victory charge. Annabel Sutherland was instrumental in the comeback, smashing an unbeaten 59 off 30 balls. She launched a fierce attack in the final 20 deliveries, including hitting two sixes off full tosses, and brought Sunrisers back into contention. Sutherland and Lauren Winfield-Hill (15) formed a rapid 50-run partnership off just 27 balls, reducing the equation to 17 runs needed from the final five balls.

Despite Sutherland's efforts, the Rockets managed to hold on for victory. The crucial turning point came when Winfield-Hill was run out with three deliveries remaining, effectively ending Sunrisers' hopes. Sutherland concluded the match with a six, but it was not enough to secure the win for her team.

Economical bowling from the Rockets' attack initially stifled Sunrisers' chase, with Phillips taking 1-10 and Jonassen contributing 2-20. The five-run margin of victory underscored the tension of the closing overs.

With this win, Trent Rockets move to within four points of the unbeaten Southern Brave at the top of the table. Sunrisers Leeds, who have struggled for form since their opening match, now sit in seventh place.
