Travis Hunter's Wife Clashes With Shannon Sharpe Over Husband's Role
Lenee Hunter publicly called out the NFL legend for his comments on her husband's playing time.
Lenee Hunter, wife of Jacksonville Jaguars two-way player Travis Hunter, engaged in a public disagreement with NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe over comments made about her husband's usage.
The exchange began after Hunter's standout performance in London, where he contributed on both offense and defense during the Jaguars' game against the Houston Texans. Hunter recorded four catches for 49 yards and a touchdown as a receiver, and also made an interception on defense, bringing his season total to two.
Lenee Hunter took to Instagram to address Sharpe, posting, "When you speak about my husband, make sure [you] put 'TWO WAY' player in front." She tagged Sharpe in the post.
Sharpe, appearing on his podcast 'NightCap' with co-hosts Chad Johnson and Joe Johnson, addressed the situation, denying any intention to belittle Hunter. "I understand that is your husband and you're supposed to ride for him," Sharpe said. "He played phenomenal. All I've ever said is I think he's a phenomenal talent. He has All-Pro ability at corner. He's an athlete at the wide receiver position that you can use him in spots."
Sharpe clarified his stance, indicating he views Hunter as a two-way player but suggested limitations might be imposed to manage wear and tear. Hunter, who played for Deion Sanders at the University of Colorado, has been working to contribute on both offense and defense for the Jaguars. While he has seen significant snaps on defense, his offensive involvement has largely been in specialized packages.
However, Hunter's offensive role saw an increase on Sunday when Jaguars coach Liam Coen benched starting receiver Brian Thomas Jr. due to dropped passes, providing Hunter with more opportunities on that side of the ball.
