Trabzonspor's Attacking Depth a Major Concern for Hearts, Warns Manager
Hearts boss Wouter Vrancken urges his team to focus on more than just Mohamed Salah as they prepare to face a potent Trabzonspor attack.
Hearts manager Wouter Vrancken has cautioned his team against fixating solely on Mohamed Salah, emphasizing that Trabzonspor possesses multiple attacking threats that demand attention. The Scottish club faces the Turkish side in a Conference League match just days after a significant defeat to Celtic.
Salah, who joined Trabzonspor from Liverpool in the summer, has been in prolific form, scoring nine goals in eleven appearances. However, Vrancken stressed the importance of a collective defensive effort rather than isolating one player.
"You cannot focus only on Salah. He is not the only one with a lot of qualities," Vrancken stated at a pre-match press conference. "They have a lot of players who can decide a game, but of course, he is a world-class player so we will have to do something to make sure he does not stick out, but it will not be easy."
Vrancken drew parallels to a previous Conference League match against Benfica, where Hearts' team effort was key to their performance. "We did that also with a team environment and team effort," he said. "That will be necessary here."
Trabzonspor currently sits fourth in the Turkish Super Lig, having won their last four matches across all competitions and scoring 13 goals in that span. Vrancken acknowledged the high caliber of their opponent, noting their impressive 4-0 victory over Galatasaray.
"Yeah, I think the quality of their team is European top level," Vrancken commented. "You see that in their results now. It will be very, very difficult."
Vrancken expressed confidence that his players have moved past their recent heavy loss to Celtic and indicated he would not abandon his team's attacking principles. However, he stressed the need for significant improvement in both defensive solidity and ball retention.
The team faces further challenges with several players sidelined due to injury. Centre-back Stuart Findlay and versatile player Oisin McEntee are unavailable due to groin and calf injuries, respectively. Vrancken noted the unusual situation of having multiple players injured in the same positions, particularly in central midfield, but stated his trust in the players who will step in.
