Tottenham Hotspur Secures Third Consecutive Premier League Victory

Tottenham Hotspur has achieved a significant milestone, securing three consecutive Premier League victories for the first time in nearly 21 months. The team's recent success includes a decisive win against Crystal Palace on Saturday, a victory that propelled them into the top half of the league table.

This streak builds upon earlier wins against Coventry City and a notable triumph over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, marking Tottenham's second league victory at that venue in 36 years. The recent run of three wins is as many as the club had accumulated in their previous 26 league matches combined, a period that saw 10 draws and 13 losses dating back to midway through the previous season.

A Shift in Momentum

The prevailing atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has visibly shifted following the team's crucial first league win of the season. Head coach Roberto de Zerbi expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, noting their focus and reaction when losing possession. "We could have scored more goals, but we created many chances," De Zerbi told BBC Sport. "We have to be more nasty, especially in the last third of the match, especially in the finishing. I'm happy because I knew before this would be a tough game."

De Zerbi also called for patience regarding his significant summer acquisitions. Midfielders Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, who arrived from Newcastle United and West Ham United respectively, are beginning to show their potential. Tonali was instrumental in the recent matches with his physical presence and playmaking, while Fernandes demonstrated his intent by consistently seeking opportunities to create impactful passes. Dejan Kulusevski also made a lively cameo appearance as a substitute against Crystal Palace, posing a threat and forcing a save from the opposing goalkeeper.

The team's dominance in statistics against Crystal Palace was pronounced, with 34 shots to their opponent's two, the largest shot differential recorded by the club since Opta records began in 2003-04. Tottenham also held 79.4% possession, their second-highest figure in a Premier League match.

Renewed Ambition

Despite the recent positive results, De Zerbi stressed the importance of maintaining ambition and hunger. "We are Tottenham. We can't forget to be ambitious, to be hungry, to win games in a row, and to make our fans happy," he stated. He also emphasized the need to build upon the current momentum, noting that "three games in a row is not enough. We have to keep this behaviour, this spirit. This condition to prepare every game in the same way."

Following an honest discussion among the players after the international break, the team has reportedly experienced a change in mood and spirit. "I think nothing has changed, but the mood, spirit, the relationship with the players are totally different," De Zerbi remarked. The upward trend in performance and team morale suggests a positive trajectory for Spurs as the season progresses.
