Tottenham Hotspur is actively pursuing West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes, aiming to secure his signature before the transfer window closes on September 1. The London club faces competition from fellow Premier League side Manchester United for the 21-year-old Portuguese international.

Sources indicate that Tottenham's strong interest has prompted West Ham to set an asking price of £85 million for Fernandes. Despite the substantial fee, Tottenham has shown determination in strengthening manager Roberto De Zerbi's squad and expressed optimism about reaching an agreement. Manchester United, while acknowledging Fernandes' potential, remains cautious about overpaying and is exploring alternative options, though they continue negotiations.

In addition to Fernandes, Tottenham is also targeting Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali for their midfield. A previous £75 million bid for Tonali was rejected, and the club plans to submit a revised offer. Earlier in the week, Tottenham finalized the signing of goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on a free transfer. These potential acquisitions follow recent defensive reinforcements, including Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, both acquired on free transfers, and Dutch defender Jan Paul van Hecke, who joined from Brighton for £52 million.
