The Minnesota Timberwolves have expressed "serious interest" in signing free agent forward Rui Hachimura, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

Hachimura, 28, is among the Los Angeles Lakers' key free agents whose future with the team remains uncertain. He averaged 11.5 points per game last season, shooting 44.3% from three-point range. While the Lakers are reportedly interested in re-signing him, they are not the only team pursuing the forward.

The Timberwolves, who recently acquired star guard LaMelo Ball from the Charlotte Hornets, are prioritizing Hachimura as their top forward target. Minnesota's offseason moves also include trading for Naz Reid and multiple draft picks.

The Lakers' front office has faced scrutiny for its roster construction around player Luka Doncic. Re-signing Hachimura would be a significant step for the Lakers as they aim to build a more competitive team. However, if Hachimura departs, some fans hope he signs with an Eastern Conference team.
