Tim Bontemps, a prominent NBA journalist formerly with ESPN and The New York Post, is transitioning to a new career in sports management as a strategic advisor for the Atlanta Hawks. Bontemps confirmed the move on Wednesday, stating his new role will place him under the direction of Onsi Saleh, the team's president of basketball operations.

Bontemps described the opportunity as "a really awesome thing" that he had considered pursuing if the right chance arose. He expressed gratitude to Saleh for the opportunity to contribute to the Hawks' organization. Bontemps had held a "dream job" at ESPN and was not actively seeking to leave but was motivated by this unique prospect.

His journalism career began at The New York Post, where he covered the Nets, before moving on to cover the NBA for The Washington Post and subsequently ESPN. In his recent years at ESPN, Bontemps focused on team strategy, player movement, and league trends, in addition to his broadcasting and digital media contributions.

Front Office Sports had previously reported in June that Bontemps was in advanced discussions to join the Hawks' front office. His absence was noted during "The Hoop Collective" podcast's coverage of the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade.

The Atlanta Hawks concluded their last season with a 46-36 regular-season record, exiting the playoffs in the first round after facing the New York Knicks.
