The Detroit Tigers suffered a dramatic collapse Wednesday, blowing a 7-0 lead against the Baltimore Orioles and falling 10-9 in extra innings. The loss, which saw the Tigers' bullpen falter after a strong start from pitcher Tarik Skubal, raises questions about the team's playoff aspirations and Skubal's future as a pending free agent.

Skubal pitched 6 ⅔ innings of one-run ball, recording his 1,000th career strikeout before exiting the game. However, reliever Kyle Finnegan allowed inherited runners to score and surrendered a subsequent single that cut the lead to 7-5. Drew Anderson entered and managed to end the inning, but the Orioles continued their rally. Gunnar Henderson and Dylan Beavers reached base, advancing on a ground out before Ryan Mayo hit a triple to tie the game at 7-7.

The game remained tied until the 11th inning, when Baltimore scored two runs. The Tigers' offense, led by Spencer Torkelson's 100th career homer, forced a 12th inning. Ultimately, Colton Cowser’s heroics for the Orioles sealed the comeback victory.

The Tigers now sit 51-58, six games out of first place in the AL Central and 4.5 games back of a wild-card spot. The club faces difficult decisions regarding Skubal as the trade deadline approaches.
